Had Typhoid. On Antibiotics. Scalp Is Little Sore, No Dandruff. Have Patches Appearing. Had Dermatitis. Have Hair Fall. Prevention?

I am British. I picked up typhoid in India around ten weeks go. I was extremely ill, and a very large dose of antibiotics took a couple of weeks to work. Suddenly now my hair has started to fall out. It's very sudden and quite agressive. It's not falling in clumps but falls steadily. My scalp is a little sore, but no dandruff. I can already see patches appearing, and this only started a week ago. I have also moved to Singapore 2 months ago, straight after my recovery. I have read that typhoid can call hair fall. I also read that tropical conditions can do the same. I have suffered from mild dermititis before, so my doctor here gave me a spray for dermititis of the scalp. So far it's not helped.

How normal is it for hair to fall out aggressively 2 months after typhoid? There were no signs of it during or straight after the illness. Also, I am resigned to losing my hair now. But will it grow back? I am taking zinc and iron supplements, eating protein etc but is there nothing else I should do?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
If chloramphenicol ( a drug for treatment for typhoid) is used in your case then may be the reason of hairs fall .
The main reason of hairs fall in your case is dermatitis ( as you mentioned that it was before typhoid fever).
No doubt you are taking zinc & iron with plenty of protein diet , but till dermatitis is there very difficult to treat hairs fall.
First get a treatment of dermatitis and then take a treatment .
Consult a dermatologist and get his opinion.
Good luck.
