Hi, you had bleeding after 7 days of surgery which is secondary bleeding the cause for which is infection. You were rightly given antibiotics for that. There occurs slough formation as a part of normal healing in the tonsillar fossa and this usually sheds off in 10 days. When you have significant bleeding from the fossa after 7 days, your first day again starts from that 7th day and it will take 10-12 days for it to go. Please take antibiotics as advised by your doctor and do gargles regularly and follow dietary advise of your doctor. Good luck

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
As you said it has been 13 days since you had tonsillectomy an appointment should be made 10-14 days after the procedure.
If you do not have fever and have finished the oral course of antibiotics as well its highly unlikely that you have an infection. At this point of time I would suggest you plan a visit to your doctor.
Apart from that drink plenty of fluids. Avoid hot spicy and scratchy foods such as fresh fruits, toast and chips because they may scratch the throat and may cause bleeding and a fresh raw surface which may aggravate infection.
Tell one of your family member to check the area carefully if there are white patchy scabs it is a sign of healing. Do not try to peel it.
It will take almost 6weeks for the throat to return to normal pink colour.
Hope this helps
