Had Sesamoid Bone Removed. Having Pain In The Joint And Toe Swollen. Given Cortsone. Joint Need Of Replacing Or Fusion?
Hello, I had my sesamoid bone removed as well as a chielctomy on my great toe. I am still having pain in the joint of the great toe when I am walking. The pain is in the joint itself. It has been swollen since surgery and the surgeon gave me a cortisone shot in the joint two weeks ago. It helped with the pain and swelling for approx 6 days. Do you think it could be the joint is in need of replacing or a fusion ?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us Without examination and looking upon xray it is difficult to comment whether replacement of joint or fusion (arthodesis) required. If pain in joints is severe and persist and on xray severe arthritic changes present ,you might need fusion or replacement of joints. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Hi, it appears to be the infection in the joint, may be caused by the manipulations nearby the joint. I to my patient with such pain presbribe neurotropic injections for 10 consecutive days, and to be continued one injection, every week. Thank you.
