Had Cauterization For Nosebleed, On Blood Thinners, Headaches, Heaviness Around Eyes. Fine With Steam Inhalation?
Hello Dr. Grief. About 10 days ago, my mother (age 72) had a cauterization for a severe nosebleed (she's on blood thinners after a stent placement 2 years ago). She has had no nosebleed since but for the past few days, seems to have symptoms of sinus (headaches, heaviness around the eyes -- particularly when she bends down). Is it okay for her to do some steam inhalation? Would the steam inhalation hard the cauterized area inside her nose and cause the bleeding to re-start? Thanks for your advice.
The symptoms as mentioned are suggestive of Sinusitis. Steam inhalation will not cause any hardening of cauterized area. Unless there is any trauma or improper cauterization, only steam inhalation will not cause re-bleeding. But it will only give temporary relief. Proper management of sinusitis needs to be done with analgesics, anti histamine & antibiotics (based on culture & sensitivity report) under the guidance of your General Physician/ ENT Specialist.
Take care.
