Had An Operation For Arthroscopic Subacromial Decompression. X-ray Shows Congestive Cardiac Failure. Likely To Have Another Attack?

hello, on the 20.5.13 i had an operation on my right shoulder for arthroscopic subacromial decompression, on recovery i was told i had swallowed an amount of mucus and this caused some choking and was therefore left in recovery for 2 hours before allowed to return to the ward. on return i was given a chest x-ray which showed evidence of congestive cardiac failure.

i want to know what might have caused this, why wasn't i told till after 2.5 weeks after the op, am i likely to have another, can i still play football and not fear a heart attack whilst playing ?
i'm 58 years old, never smoked, diabetic on insulin, weigh approx 80 kilos and am 5' 9" tall.

i would appreciate any answers you can supply.

regards Lawrence

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Inability of the heart to pump the blood effectively enough to meet the body's metabolic activities .
In your query you asked ,how it occurs ( what is the reason?).
May result from intrinsic causes of pump failure,
Increased workload over heart,
Coronary artery disease,
hypertension,
Hypertrophy of heart,
cor pulmonale.
Diabetes is one of the most foremost cause of congestive heart failure.
4 CLASS of heart failure present.
Class 1 patient can play football,
class 2 ( certain limits)
3 & 4 not allowed to play football.
Hope I have answered your question.
If further any question I will help.
