Had A Stroke. Headache, Jaw Pain, Inner Ear Infection, Fatigue, Trouble Speaking. Done EKG. Why Do I Have Facial Twitches?

approx. 2 weeks ago I had severe, severe pain in the back of my head on the left, the pain radiated into my left jaw and face, I went to the doctor the next morning she said she thought it was an inner ear infection. she prescribed antibiotics, 4 days later my entire left side of my face went numb and during this entire thing I had trouble swallon, extreme fatique, fumbleness in my hands, esp. my left hand. and a little trouble speaking. I waited 4 more days, then went in again. This time she said she thought I had a stroke and sent me to the ER. At the er they did a EKG - abnormal for T wave abnormality, CTA that the ER doctor said looked ok, my labs were ok. The set me up to see a nuerologist in 2 weeks. The ER doctor mention something about multiple sclerosis. He prescribed me medrol-dose pack of steriods which has helped alittle. I still have a severe pressure in the back of my head and it now goes into my right back side of my head. Few weeks before this episode I had really bad facial twitches on my left side until everything went numb. now I am having some on my right side and pain in the back of my right leg. ????? what could this be. I am kinda scared.

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.

In view of your symptoms such as headache and other neurological symptoms, we need to exclude an underlying brain disease, such as stroke or multiple sclerosis.

The chance of stroke is more likely in an older person with risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or cholesterol. However, multiple sclerosis is more likely in a younger person without the above-mentioned risk factors.

The diagnosis can be confirmed by an MRI scan of brain and a neurologist consultation.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Neurology)
