Frequent Urination At Night When Sugar Levels Are High, Dry Mouth. Have Diabetes. Taking Lantus

I have a problem. i urinate 2 to 3 times in the nigh, during the day I really don t have this urge often. i go to urinate like any other normal person 2 to 3 times in the daytime. I find this 2 to 3 times urination at night happens when my sugar levels are high. I experience dryness in the mouth so keep drinking water. I am 55 years old and have had diabetes detected 30 years ago. I take 14 units of Lantus every night with some oral medication as well: Euglim 3 mg, Glyciphage 2 grams Nd Volix 0.3 mg.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
I have gone through your history in detail, you are diabetic for last 30 year, if frequency of urination is more when blood sugar level is high it is due to diuretic action of high blood sugar level and dryness is due to dehydration and you take more water which in turn will lead to urination in night.
Other possibilities as you are diabetic for 30 years is early Nephropathy you should do a kidney function test and albumin in urine and urine R&M specially specific gravity and urine concentration test.
Your age is 55 so there could be Benign prostate enlargement so get your Ultrasound done to check residual urine and PSA.
Please also get your cardiac check up and any signs of heart failure may be checked by 2 D Echo cardiography.
Keep your blood sugar control to optimum level and monitor by FBS and PPBS along with HbA1c at 3 month interval.
Please discuss with your Physician and consult Uro Surgeon if necessary.
Take care good Luck.

Hello,
You yourself has said correctly that you get more urine in night whenever your sugar levels are high.
Uncontrolled diabetes results in increased thirst and incresed urination.
Talk to your doctor for modification of drugs so that your sugar gets controlled properly.
Your continued drinking of water contributes towards your nocturnal urination.
Along with this uncontrolled diabetes, other factors also play role in contributing towards more urination in night.these are..
As the age advances you produce more urine in night due to decreased production of ADH hormone.
As the age advances, the holding capacity of bladder decreases.
One may develop prostate hyperplasia causing more urine in night.
You must control your sugar levels meticulously and if you still are not able to tackle your nocturnal urination, you may consult a urologist and get investigated thoroughly to find the cause and treatment.
Thanks
