Found That Steel Plates That Were Put Before Were Broken, Bone Graft Never Healed During Amputation. Could The Doctors Have Not Found It Before?
My husband had a farm accident 4 years ago. He almost completely amputated his lower left leg. They put 2 steel plates in and did a bone graft. After almost 4 years of constant infection and 28 surgeries he finally asked them just to please amputate. When they amputated they discovered the steel was broke and the bone graft never healed. My question is should they not have noticed this a long time ago and how could a plated break like that?
HI Thank for asking to HCM I really understand your question, it must have been noticed but it is all taking the chance, once it is known that the plate being broken but does not alter or effect any healing process then it does not matter if left it there , low grade material used in prosthesis causes the damage the slight uneven pressure can cause break or crack in plate, in all the surgical cases the post surgical complication has to be taken in account these are very likely to happen, hope you would be satisfied.
