For How Long Should Clobazam Be Continued In An Infant?
My son had seizure while fever when he was 8 month old and it lasted for 5 mins and doctor suggested to give clobazam half tab twice daily during first 3 days of fever till he get 6 years of age. after 10 days again he got fever and affected by seizure for 2 mins. Whether I have to continue clobazam till 6 years? Is there any solution that do not occur again?
For up to 6 years of age. Based on the history your son seem to have had febrile seizure ( convulsion that is brought on by having a fever). Clobazam is a very effective in preventing recurrent febrile seizures with minimal side effects.
It is usually recommend for up to 6 years of age. Apart from this there is no other solution to prevent the recurrence of febrile seizure. The fever should be treated immediately by giving paracetamol every 4-6 hours, tepid sponging with lukewarm water, and by giving plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
