Feel Anxious About Acne. Undergone Laser, Ozone Treatments. Stopped Interacting With People. Less Sleep. Sign Of Depression?

My wife is panicky and facing anxiety because of her acute acne and white head problem. She has undergone various laser and ozone treatments since last two months but not to much avail. She is very particular about her skin and looks she keeps thinking about her acne or scars all day and is not able to concentrate on anything. She occasionally starts crying, stopped going out and interacting with people and lost her sleep as well. Even if she sleeps, she wakes up suddenly after short intervals. She tries to judge all day how much her acne and scars have receded and whether there is any new growth. Doctor please help me, is this a sign of depression? What medication is advisable to reduce her anxiety levels?

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your problem description. I can sincerely advice to go and meet a psychiatrist for a better treatment option. Please do not keep this problem unattended, else this might go beyond treatment.

Anxiety and acne are two separate conditions. Acne alone cannot cause the development of an anxiety disorder, and anxiety alone cannot lead to acne. It seems that your wife is upset about your look and she is fearing what others might say about her appearance. This could be termed as Body Dysmorphic Disorder which warrants for psychological as well as psychiatric treatment.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarification.
Good luck.
