Experiencing Numbness While Lifting Hands Parallel To Chest

My fingertips go numb when I either have my hands lifted to they are parallel to by chest. When I put them down at the my sides I get the feeling back and it seems like the blood runs back down to my hand. Could I have poor blood circulation or is it something else to that effect? Low iron in blood perhaps? Can you please help me to understand why this happens? thanks

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your clinical description it seems that you have peripheral vascular disease of your upper limbs. It is a constrictive disease of the blood vessels due to which blood circulation to the peripheries of the limbs decreases. If I were your treating doctor I would have done some clinical examinations and suggested you some tests as follows

- Complete hemogram, fasting and PP blood sugar, lipid profile, doppler ultrasound of the upper limb vessels (eg: subclavian, brachial arteries) and regular monitoring of your blood pressure; to rule out any comorbid conditions like Hypertension, dyslipidemia, Diabetes mellitus, and to diagnose the vessel involved in the disease.

With proper clinical evaluation and diagnosis you may need to visit a physician and a vascular surgeon for further evaluation and management. Hence, I would suggest you to visit your doctor with these early symptoms to rule out the disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Md Firoz Mullick
