Does Withdrawal Of Gabapentin Trigger The Symptoms Of GERD?

Hi. I have GERD and the dr gave me gabapentin to trial to help with the right side jaw pain I was experiencing. I started with 1 cap daily and increased it to 3 caps a day. I didn t feel it was helping so I decided to taper the dose by 1 cap less weekly. Ever since I reduced to 1 cap since tapering it off 2 weeks ago..my GERD symptoms worsened. Can you explain why that would happen? What can I do to help with my GERD Besides Pantoloc as it has not really helped much either

Hello,

I would recommend you to have frequent small amounts of food during the day and avoid food 4 hours before bedtime. Also, avoid drinking plenty of water before bedtime. This will reduce the amount of fluids that go up to your throat (the reflux).

Also, you should avoid alcohol, smoking, and coffee as these make GERD worse. You may raise the head of the bed with bricks to reduce the reflux at night.
Avoiding certain foods that make the symptoms worse is advisable as well.
You will need to keep a healthy weight (BMI between 20 and 25) as overweight may make GERD worse.

If these are not helping enough you will need to be seen by your doctor.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
