Does Vitamin D Intake Cause Nausea?

Age: 29 Height: 5 4 Weight: 120 Hi, I have a question about allergic reactions to taking Vit. D3. I just started taking 2,000 IU daily of a dry D3 vitmin from a company called Metabolic Maintenance, and noticed a difference in the way I feel - both good and bad. They make a dry formula - which is all I can take since I have multiple food allergies. I ve been on this supplement for 4 days and noticed on the third day that my tongue felt like it got burned (same feeling as when you drink something really hot and scorch your tongue.) AND I also felt nauseous right after taking the vitamin - no vomiting or anything like that, just nausea. Do you know if this is a common symptom of taking Vitamin D? Thank you so much.

Hi,

Yes, vitamin D can cause allergic reaction, burned tongue is pointing towards allergy. You should stop the supplement and visit ER and get your vitals checked to make sure if you need epinephrine injection or any oral anti allergic medicines.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
