Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My girlfriend has an ovebite. She went to a dentist and was told 4 teeth has to be extracted before having braces . but the proceedure has postponed because she's wearing glasses.because they told extraction of teeth may affect eyesight. Is that true?
As per your complain it is a complete myth and an utter misconception that tooth extraction effects the eye sight of the human..
Extraction can cause pain, swelling bleeding and at times bruising and unhealed socket known as "Dry Socket" , all of which are treatable and has no life threatening problems while in very rare cases death can occur due to severe allergic reactions or aspiration of extracted tooth into the trachea entering the lungs but are very rare chances as all the necessary precautions are taken by dentists..
You need not to worry as there is no effect on eye sight after extraction and you can very much continue with her extraction , no matter she wears spectacles nothing will happen for sure..
Hope this helps..
Thanks and regards..
