Does The Use Of Cocaine Have An Effect On The TSH Levels?

I had thyroid cancer and had it all removed in 2006. My endo was forced to join a medical group and now follows their rules. I was monitored and maintained on 300 mcg of synthroid prior and was eventually down to 275 mcg and feeling fine and normal. Now with this new policy I have been brought down to 175 mcg. I feel tired and lethgargic. I started using cocaine to boost my energy and feel better. I don t want to use the cocaine I just want to be functional again. My question is: If I stop or reduce the synthroid and use the cocaine to function, then stop the cocaine and go for blood work will my TSH levels change? P.S. I am currently seeing a therapist for my history of suicidal attempts.

Hi
Cocaine use may not affects the thyroid functions significanly but withdrawal of cocaine in addicted people has been shown to be associated with a condition of subclinical hypothyroidism after about a month of withdrawal.Your TSH level may not change. But you do not need to be afraid of the change if any and think instead of how to get better.I will suggest you see your Endocrinilogist again to judge the need to adjust your dose of synthroid. We all know humans are not mechanical devices to work with a fixed dose of a particular drug.Treatments are given on clinical indications and when there is an indication to raise the dose of your drug, he will do it for the good of his client and the present policy will not stop good practice.Just meet him again and you will go back home happy.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
