Does Tetanus Shot Cause Irregular Periods?

About a week and a half ago I had to get a tetanus shot because of a nasty cat bight. I have also been taking amoxil for the bight. My period was due to start later that week and at first it did. I spotted for about a day and then it stopped. Then, that Friday it started up again, just enough to make me have to rush home to get cleaned up, then it stopped again. Now, It s starting back up. Is this a normal side effect from such a shot? And before you ask, there is no chance I am pregnant.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The bleeding is not a known side effect of the tetanus shot though everyone reacts differently to medication.

Emotional or physical stress or illness can cause a change in menstruation so it is possible that this may be the cause of the abnormal bleeding that you are experiencing.

It should resolve with this acute condition.

If your other cycles continue to be abnormal then you may need to see your doctor for an assessment.
This may include a history of all involved symptoms and physical examination- abdominal and pelvic examination

I hope this helps
