Does Taking Hydrocodone Cause Any Side Effects To The Brain?

I ve seen so much about addiction on tv lately. I am taking 10 mg hydroco-cpap 3 times a day. I ve been on this med for 7 years. Is it still effective? Is it doing bad things to my brain? I still have arthritic pain, I weigh 450 lbs and have been in a wheelchair for 10 years.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hydrocodone is a semisynthetic opioids derived from codeine, which is a narcotic analgesic used orally for relief of moderate to severe pain and as an antitussive to treat cough. Common side effects of hydrocodone are nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness and anxiety. Hydrocodone per say does not cause any damage to brain. However, it can be habit forming, causing physical and psychological dependence. Kindly take the medications as advised and do the necessary follow-up.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
