Hi. .. I need your help. My friend had been infected with syphilis. And is on treatment. I wanted to know. Once treated and results show negative on vdrl test. In future can this csyphilis reoccur or cause any damage to the body. Can a person live a normal life get married and have children. Please help sir.
Syphilis is a bacterial disease transmitted by sexual intercourse. It is a totally curable disease. It is treated by penicillin antibiotic. Your friend must be taking this. It will cure syphilis. But complete treatment must be taken. After complete treatment, there is no chance of recurrence and your friend can have a normal life and can have children. There are chances of other sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea, chancroid, HIV, and hepatitis B/C. get tested for these infections also. Advice 4. Continue treatment of syphilis as suggested 5. Take hepatitis B vaccine – 3 doses – on 0, 1 and 6 months 6. Use condom before sex 7. Investigations a. HBsAg (Australia antigen) b. HCV DNA c.
