Does Swallowing Hot Food Affect The Chest?

Hi so I was cooking some French fries on the oven and took it out. I ate a hot french fries and swallowed it and it was burning in my chest for like 3 seconds and I took a deep breath and it just went away. Then I took a long sip of lemonade. Am I good?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Eating very hot food accidentally can cause burning sensation in the lining of the throat and food pipe. It can also cause pain and difficulty in swallowing.

Mostly, the injury is not severe and gets healed soon. In your case, it also does not look severe as you are looking pretty much fine.

Still, I would suggest avoiding very hot foods and cool them to room temperature before eating.

Drink plenty of cool fluids preferably cold water. If there is slight burning or pain do not worry as it will get better soon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
