Does Stress Cause Stomach Discomfort And Bloody Vomiting?

My husband had a high stress job and the other day he just couldn t take it anymore and blew up and quit. He was so angry that he was shaking and continued shaking all day. His stomach has been messed up ever since and the day after he vomited blood. He says it was only that one time, but he can t get his stomach right. Could it be stress related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Stress can cause or worsen gastritis but usually not to the extent of vomiting blood.

It would be best for him to be seen.

It is possible that he may have an ulcer in his stomach but imaging may be needed to confirm this.

If confirmed, then effective treatment can be initiated.

I hope this helps.
