Does Stent In Colon Help To Get Rid Of Excess Fluid?

My mom has stage 4 ovarian cancer and recently developed a block in her sigmoid colon due to the cancer. they have had her on suction for the past two weeks trying to get rid of excess fluid and air in her abdomen caused by the blockage. it is not working at all. the doctors are talking about putting a stent in the colon to help alleviate the problem. what is your comments on this procedure? is this a good procedure to be considering at this time given the circumstances?

Hello dear. I appreciate your concern. Your mother is suffering from intestinal obstruction. It can be relieved in two ways. If she is fit and fine enough then a surgery can be done to remove the obstructing segment and adhesions. Otherwise stenting can be done. Sometimes just with prolong medications and giving rest to intestines also works well . You can discuss all these options with your doctor. Hope that assures you.
