Does Sore Stomach With Severe Cough Suggest Sprained Muscles?

I have a cold with cough. My coughing has made my stomach area sore. It hurts when I cough as I have been overworking these muscles. The area feels tight. Kind of like a work out. Could I have sprained this area with all this couching or is this a sign of something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Persistent coughing can be associated with strain of the muscles in the chest and/or abdomen so this is the likely cause of your symptoms unless you were doing another vigorous activity.

You should use a cough suppressant to reduce your coughing and a anti inflammatory pain killer to help with the pain.
This includes medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen.

I hope this helps
