Does Smoking Marijuana Affect Heart Readings On A Monitor?
will smoking marijuana affect my readings for my heart event monitor. I am wearing it for two weeks. The dr. thinks my heart palpatations (only showed themselves when excercising) came from a combination of stress and caffiene. I typically dont drink coffee, but was driking up to 24 ozs a day for two week span combined with an extreme amount of stress. my initial ekg was normal. Dr. just wants to make sure so she recommended the event monitor.

Smoking marijuana or cannabis will affect your heartbeat. Cannabis is known to increase heartbeat (tachycardia) and cause palpitations by precipitating anxiety. In some studies it has been found to affect heart and cardiac output also. As your are on event monitor so please avoid smoking marijuana for that time.
