Does Shingles Cause Elevation In Liver Enzymes?

I have elevated liver enzymes (500) slowly going down. I am 64 years old. I was on leflunimine for rheumatoid arthritis. I am to undergo triple cardiac bypass surgery but it has been put off until enzymes get below 100. A dentist told me that shingles could cause liver problems. I had shingles couple months ago. Could shingles be a culprit? I also have adrenal insufficiency and I m immune system compromised. My IgG is 200. Thank you. Linda S. from Chicago. YYYY@YYYY

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Shingles is probably caused due to compromised immunity, however, it is unlikely to cause elevated liver enzymes. I suggest you to consult your gastroenterologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigations.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
