Does Reducing Carbs Including More Protein In My Diet Help Me Avoid Insulin?

I am 31 weeks pregnant and have been maintaining my blood sugar below 130 with diet and exercise until last week, but this week suddenly it has spiked to 147, does it look like i may require insulin? Will reducing carbs and including more protein in my diet help me to avoid insulin

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

I need more details before I can answer your query more specifically. Did you have diabetes prior to pregnancy, or did it develop during the pregnancy? Are you on any medicine at all or just exercise and diet are helping you control the sugars? And the sugars you have mentioned, are they random, fasting or post prandial?

To answer your query, i am going to make assumptions that are usually the case in most queries we see.

Assumption 1:the sugars got raised during pregnancy.
Assumption 2: no medicines are being used
Assumption 3: fasting sugars were informed

the fact remains that the sugars rise constantly during pregnancy. the rise will usually halt and in most cases reverse after pregnancy has ended. The possibility that you can control the sugars further by diet needs to be tried and accordingly decided. Noone can suggest a treatment option based on just one reading of sugar. Overall, a larger range of sugar is needed before deciding what medicine needs to be given.
However, I would suggest not waiting too long simply because the raised sugars also affect the baby growing. so the sugars should be controlled as far as possible.

One need not be worried about using insulin. there are too many myths about it. the fact is that it is the best medicine for sugars.

Check HbA1c

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further. Please feel free to ask another query. Would be glad to help you.
