Does Protrusion Usually Involve Surgery To Correct?

My husband had an MRI that shows mild left faraminal and far left lateral broad based protrusion measuring up to 2-3 mm AP at L2 L3 and L5 S1 Fissures noted involving the posterior annulus. Broad based protrusion measuring 2-3 mm AP which effaces the thecal sac. I thought protrusions usually involve surgery to correct?

Respected user, hi I evaluated your query thoroughly.
* Surgery decisions depend on variety of factors
- symptoms of the patient
- discomfort / work / mobility restrictions from the disease
- associated comorbid conditions underlying
- level of relief from medications / exercises / physiotherapy in certain cases
is appreciable or not
- consultants concern regarding the case according to his / her expertise
- severity of lesion in the supportive database
- considering advantages & disadvantages of surgery & the condition in
which patient is offered conservative line of management both ways
* So it doesn`t stamp that your condition is requiring surgery 100% only
by reports , there are lot many things to be correlated for that decision.
