Does Pregnancy After A Post Partum Cardio Myopathy Weaken The Heart?

Hello. 12 years ago I had post partum cardio myopathy. I was told no more pregnancies. I just found out I m pregnant accidentally. I am going to terminate the pregnancy. However I m concerned about my heart. How far along in a pregnancy could this affect my heart again? I m 3 days passed my missed period.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It would be a risk for you to continue with pregnancy as you have cardiomyopathy as an underlying disorder. At later stages of pregnancy, it would certainly affect the functioning of the heart due to hemodynamic changes. Since you have decided to terminate it at an early stage, you need not worry about it as it wouldn't affect the functioning of the heart at this stage. Kindly seek medical advise by consulting Obstetrician for going in for the termination process.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
