Does Painful Esophageal Spasm Indicate Chances Of Esophageal Cancer?

My daughter is 47 and recently had what she felt was an esophageal spasm. It was quite painful and scary, but got much better. She is to have a endoscopic exam of her esophagus in about a month. I had a friend with similar symptoms and he had esophageal cancer. What are the chances that my daughter has this cancer?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

No, esophageal cancer is not the first thing to think of and this is a rare diagnosis usually seen in older people who smoke or drink alcohol however of course it cant be ruled out for 100%. Spasms may be sign of gastritis, gerd or neurogenic issues so I dont think there is a reason to be worried. Endoscopy will show exact problem and then treatment can be started. Also, cancer is presented usually with rapid weight loss and swallowing difficulties so if these are not present, the diagnosis of cancer is not likely.
