Does Pain At The Back Of The Head Post Injury Require Medical Attention?

So today me and my friends were play fighting and one of them pushed me into a small snow bank where I lost my footing and the back of my head slammed into the concrete of the road. I was a bit dizzy after that but other then a painful pressure at the back of my head, I felt and looked fine. After a couple hours the painful pressure went away but theres a spot on my head thats so tender that I cant even rest my head on my pillow without feeling pain. I looked at symptoms of a concussion and I dont have any except sleepiness and that may be nothing as I m a teenager and I have a erratic sleep schedule. The pain on the back of my head is still there if I even try to gently touch the bump or just lay down on my back but other then that I dont have any of the symptoms listed. I am wondering if you think it may be necessary to see someone or if I just have a bruise that will go away in a couple days.

Hi dear,

From the sound of it, it seems like just a little bump or bruise that will heal automatically and there is nothing to worry about.

If you had vomited right after hurting your head or vomit in next 24 hours or feel any unusual symptoms of disorientation or dizziness, you should immediately see a physician and get your injury checked.

If no other complications occur and you find reduction in intensity of pain as time passes, you can let the injury heal completely with time.

You can apply ice to the area for relief. Paracetamol 500 mg or Nimeson P taken twice a day for 3-4 days can also help to endure pain or injury.

I would advise you to take care while you play roadside as you have just saved yourself from a big accident.

I hope this information helps. Thanks for choosingHealthCareMagic. Please take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
