Does Mitral Valve Prolapse Cause Discomfort In Heart During Sinus Infection?
I have been trying to fight a sinus infection for 4 days and with a lot of sleep I m starting to feel better and I m not taking an antibiotic. Many years ago I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse. When I have a sinus infection or am fighting off one my heart seems to feel like its having to pump harder and my body feels weaker than usual. I am 68 years old. is this normal?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Prolapsed valve can be a risk of getting infection to heart valves. Sinus infection or tooth infections can give such infections. So if you have discomfort in heart and weakness better to have an assessment with your physician and echo cardiography to rule out this. In such case antibiotic therapy will be required. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
