Does Liver Produce Glucose During Sleep?

I was recently diagnosed with type II Diabetes. My sister said that your liver produces glucose while we sleep. I have never heard this. I know the liver metabolizes and stores glucose, but I question whether she is correct about the liver producing glucose. Thank you

Hello,
Welcome to HCM
Your sister is partially right.
Liver produces glucose from other products like proteins and fatty acids by a process called neoglucogenesis.
Also it breaks down the glycogen stored in it. to produce glucose by a process called glycogenolysis.
These processes are active when you are fasting but not when you are asleep.
Hope i have answered your query.
Thank you
