Does Laser Hair Removal While On An Antihistamine Cause Any Risk?

Hi, I m taking antihistamine tablets almost all my life for allergies. I m considering laser hair removal and the consultant there suggested that I should stay off antihistamine tablets at least 48h before and after the procedure. She said that antihistamines increase photosensitivity of the skin. I m finding it hard to not to take my medication as I have bad allergies. Could you please tell me what is the risk if I m on antihistamine while having my laser hair removal done? Thank You

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is well documented that intake of anti histamine medication increases the skin sensitivity to sun. I do agree with avoidance of the anti histamine for the said desired period of time for better results of your procedure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
