Does Irregular Periods And Weight Gain Indicate Sign On PCOD?

My daughter had no problem with her menstrual cycle and had regular periods. But from last 2-3 months she is having some irregularities with her period. This month she did not have her period. She has gained weight from last one and half year. She was examined through ultrasonography one year back. Her ovaries were absolutely normal. What is the problem now? Is this a sign of PCOD?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

See, irregular periods and weight gain may be associated with PCOD but can also occur in some other conditions, most commonly in hypothyroidism. If UGS reports are normal, PCOD is unlikely. I would still suggest you the following-

Get another USG done.
Get blood for T3, T4, TSH done.
Get blood sugar and HbA1c tested.
You can then consult a gynaecologist with the reports.

Hope this was useful.
Regards
