Does Intercourse Cause Early Menstruation?

Hello. On January 28th I lost my virginity. We did not use a condom but he did not ejaculate in me. I experienced normal bleeding due to hymen breakage for about a day and it was very light and hardly noticeable. Yesterday I thought I had gotten my period, which is actually due next Sunday, and it was not just spotting, it got my whole underwear dirty. Today I spotted in the morning but it got very heavy after, it looks like a normal period and feels like one too. Is there any weirdness or anything I should be worried about? Could stress be affecting my cycle, since I have been stressed out about losing my virginity since the very day I did?

Hi,

Yes, stress and anxiety can make periods come early. Stress causes release of stress hormones in the body that can alter the flow and the cycle. If you work too much, feel tired and fatigued almost all the time, that can also cause altering in the flow and variations in cycle. So stress could be the reason. Eating healthy, taking care not to gain or lose weight too much and too fast, sleeping well, and relaxation can help to make cycles regular from next month.

However, having sexual intercourse without condom or any other birth control measures even if your friend ejaculates outside can make you pregnant or can transmit venereal diseases. Even a little fluid discharge from men other than ejaculation during sexual intercourse can make you susceptible to pregnancy.

I have to note here that early periods can also indicate pregnancy. The periods are called implantation bleeding. To rule out that reason, I would advise you to take a pregnancy test at home. You get these test sticks over the counter in any medical or super store. You just have to pee on it and look for the (+) or (-) sign to indicate positive or negative test, respectively. The instructions are nicely given on every pack so you can read it once before you take the test. You might need to see a gynecologist if the test comes positive.

In case of negative pregnancy test, wait for the next moth periods. If that comes early too and irregular periods becomes a routine, then I would recommend you to see a gynecologist for physical examination and rule out hormonal imbalances or any other pathology.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthCareMagic. Take care.

Best,
