Does Intake Of Gabapentin Causes High Blood Pressure?

I have been taking 300 mg of Gabapentin a day for 4 months to help with sciatic pain. I now have developed high blood pressure, swollen feet and ankles and have trouble with slow urination. Could this be due to Gabapentin ? I had none of these symptoms before.

Hello,

I read your message carefully and understood your concern.

Yes, gabapentin may cause hypertension as a common side effect. Dysuria or weak urination and joint swelling are also side effects but not too common.

You have been taken this drug for a long time. You must be patient and give time for the body to get cleared from the drug until totally subsided.

I would like to know if you have noticed any high blood pressure while you were on gabapentin treatment?

As you are also developing swollen feet and ankles, that could be due to kidney problems. Further urine analysis, abdominal ultrasound and kidney function test are recommended to check it out.

Local examination of the blood vessels in the lower extremities is recommended together with Doppler ultrasound to rule out deep vein thrombosis.

As the symptoms just appeared, I highly recommend to consult with your doctor and run the above-mentioned tests.

Hope this was helpful.
