Does Intake Of Amoxicillin Interfere With Working Of Birth Control Pills?
I had unprotected sex on June 28 which is day 11 of my 28 day cycle. I am on birth control and he pulled out so normally I would not be worried, except on June 26 I started 500-125mg tablets of amoxicillin tr-k clv every 8 hours or along with prednisone as I am being treated for sinus issues. I read the amoxicillin makes birth control faulty (although my doctor didn t mention this!) and am now worried about a possible pregnancy.

Birth control pill is affacted mainly by some drugs which induce hepatic enzymes. Amoxicillin has no role on hepatic enzymes. So use of amoxicillin does not hamper the function of oral contraceptive pills.
Though there is a chance of failure in contraception use. Which means there is a very minimum chance of getting pregnant even after use of proper contraception. So its recommended to do an urine pregnancy test after around 15days to confirm your pregnancy if there is any doubt.
