Does Intake Of Clomipramine Help In Treating OCD?

I was an OCD patient years back, but was not having for the last 10-12 years. But now it again started. The only drug which helped me to relieve OCD years back was Clomipramine (Anafranil), but now the doctors are not prescribing it but giving me CIPRALEX which does not give me any relief....can I start clomipramine of my own ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
OCD is a very resistant kind of neurotic condition. It requires long term treatment. Obsessions are unwanted thoughts, images, or doubts that repeatedly appear in patient’s mind. Compulsions are repetitive activities that patient do. The aim of a compulsion is to try and deal with the distress caused by the obsessive thoughts and relieve the anxiety.
Clomipramine was used previously but it is not used now a days because of its side effects. Better drugs are now available for treatment of OCD.
Advice
1.     Fluoxetine 20 mg every 12 hours per oral for 3 months
2.     Stop Ciprlex if it is not giving any relief
3.     Family and social support is needed for total cure o. Discuss your problem with your family
4.     Start workout in gym at least for half an hour for 4 – 5 days in a week regularly
5.     Take natural high protein like egg, soya bean, pulses, meat, and milk. Choose food with nutritional calories like potato, banana and dry fruits
6.     Drink 3 – 4 liters of water daily
7.     Avoid excess intake tea and coffee
Consult a psychiatrist for better follow up.
Thanks
