Does Insulin Effect The Epilepsy In A Person?

I take insulin. Both Lantus and Novolog. I have epilepsy too. The insulin effects my epilepsy b/c
it effects my sleep. The insulin makes sleep very little. My question is there any other insulins that can
replace these insulins that doesn't affect my sleep?

Hi!
Welcome to HCM!
Insulins as such are not linked to the sleep disturbances. They are known to cause fall in blood glucose, abnormal growth of fat at the sites of injection, and allergic reactions if the patient is taking it for the first time.

Since as you have mentioned in your cause you are also suffering from epilepsy but did not mention about the medications. The medications used for epilepsy are known to cause drowsiness to the extent of inducing sleep.

I hope your doubts have been clarified.
Regards!

General & Family Physician Dr. Dr.Albana Sejdini's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are going through.

Insulin itself does not effect epilepsy. Oscillations in blood sugar level can aggravate the symptoms of epilepsy, especially when it comes to low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).

I advise to:
- monitor your blood sugar levels (bsl), record the results to pass them to your doctor
- discuss with your doctor about changing the dosage of insulin according to the bsl readings.

All the best!
