Does Increased Dosage Of Amoxicillin For Cough And Fever Cause Fainting?
Hi dr. andrew, i am a 36 old female. I had a bad cough and fever last week and i went to doctor and doctor prescribed me amoxicilin 1000mg twice daily for 7 days. Now i finished 2 days and my cough has gone. i feel like fainting when i am taking the dose. I think it is too strong for me. My body wt is 66 kg. I just want to know can i reduce the dosage like taking one tablet at night something like that

Antibiotics kills ninety percent of bacteria with initial two doses. The remaining course is for killing those ten percent. Early stoppage of antibiotics or decreasing its dose leads to increase resistance of bacteria. It is time dependent drug hence it should be given BD or TDS.
I would like to advise you to continue your dosage of antibiotics for 7 days as prescribed by your doctor.
Dizziness or fainting is less common side effect of amoxicillin.
In order to avoid it lie down or sit down for some time when you feel dizzy which occur especially 1-2 hours when drug has peak action. Take plenty of water. Do regular excersize to enhance your stamina.
