Hi,
Counseling and medications combined form an effective way to quit. The most important thing required to quit is to be motivated. Counseling will specifically focus on improving your motivation. It will also include teaching you relaxation exercises to help you relax. Methods will be taught to control craving.
There are options regarding medications. These include nicotine substitution (available as gums, etc) which will control craving for tobacco. Other options are bupropion and varnecline. You can discuss about all this with your treating psychiatrist.
Happy quitting and all the best.
