Does High BP Cause Low Grade Fever?

Hello. I currently take 450mg of Bupropion XL every day, and have been for almost a year now. I recently got a cold or flu-like virus which caused extreme fatigue, sinus congestion, and fever. I went to the doctor on the 5th day because I still wasn t feeling back to 100%. I had been taking Sudafed, the kind that you have to show your id for, ibuprofen, and 100mgs of Hydroxyzine, which I take every night to help with sleeplessness. Today I woke up and one of my joints in my right hand on my thumb (possibly the knuckle?) was extremely swollen, and it still his. It is very sore and hard to move. To the best of my knowledge I didn t hurt it the previous day. I didn t hit it on anything, or bump it, or anything that I can recall. Yesterday, when I went to the doctor, my diastolic blood pressure was 120. I have never had an abnormal blood pressure screening before. My question to you is, would any of this have caused abnormal swelling in my joints, and also, does high blood pressure cause a low grade fever or the chills ? I am a 34 year old female.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the high blood pressure (diastolic) is in concern with side effect of Pseudophedrine tablet most likely. The low grade fever with chills are related to underlying viral infection which also relate to the swelling joints via immune response. On the reverse, the high BP is not the reason of low grade fever.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
