Does Herpes Breakout On The Palm Of My Hand Need Immediate Medical Attention?

I went to the doctor today for a herpes breakout on the palm of my hand. There was also a faint red line traveling up my arm. Doctor prescribed valacyclovir and sulfamethoxazole, I have taken 2 of each already however red line has continued to go further up my arm and is at the elbow now, arm is sore. How soon before the medications should start working, when do I need to be concerned?
