Does Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes?

I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck for 4 weeks. I went for an ultrasound and the radiologist said that my thyroid is suggestive of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I have been referred to a specialist but I still don't even have an appointment. Could Hashimoto's thyroiditis cause the swollen lymph nodes or should I be worried about something else. I can't fine anything online that suggests Hashimoto's could cause swollen lymph nodes. I am moving from Canada to the United States in just 2 months to marry an American. I won't have medical insurance right away when I move and we're considering postponing the move if this is something serious. The visa situation is very strict and complicated for US immigration and I need to make important decisions now or else I will risk losing a lot of money and having to start the visa process over. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi there,

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is almost never associated with swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
There could be a number of reasons for swollen lymph nodes in the neck from infections to tumors to collagen vascular diseases. Swollen lymph nodes are usually just one part of the complete picture. Nothing can be commented upon the cause from the information provided.
You should see the specialist and get a full physical examination and relevant investigations done to know about the cause (and the seriousness).
Hope it helps..
