Does Growing Mole Filled With Pus Require Medical Attention?

I have a mole that has recently gone through some changes. In the past month it has tripled in size. Last week I noticed that it had started to change colors...the base is brown but the middle portion is white and the tip is black. It is now pus filled, should I be concerned?

Hi,

The mole can be infected if there is swelling, redness or blood or pus oozes out of this. A spitz nevus mole is a type of mole, that looks like a melanoma. It is usually of pink color and often raised in dome shape. Some times pus may be coming out of it. If it is infected mole, then gently clean the area with soap and water several times a day and make it dry with a towel and keep it covered to avoid irritation.

If the infection is minor, then it should clear the infection. However, if the infection is still present, a course of antibiotics may be needed. However, any mole changing its color, size or shape may be a warning sign for skin melanoma and it must be confirmed/ruled out by the biopsy taken for histopathological examination.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
