Does Giving Ibuprofen On An Empty Stomach Cause Gastritis?

Hi, my kid has fever due to throat infection...I had to give her ibugesic plus 7 ml ( she is 3 years 9 months old and weighs 18 kg) sometime at midnight on an empty stomach as she developed shivers and fever sometime around 3 am...this has happened around 3 times in 2 days...does giving ibuprofen on an empty stomach cause gastritis ?... if so what are the symptoms and remedy ?

Hi... Ibuprofen given on empty stomach can cause drug induced gastritis. If this happens this is what you should do -

1. Stop giving not only Ibuprofen - but also avoid any NSAID group of drugs.
2. Next time when you go to the physician you need to inform about this happening to the doctor so that he or she will be cautious in prescribing NSAIDs.
3. You need to use proton pump inhibitors (drugs like Lansoprazole or Pantoprazole). I suggest you see a pediatrician for this.
4. You can give lots of curds and buttermilk to reduce the gastritis as home remedy.
