Does Frequent Urination Suggest Type 2 Diabetes?

I think I may have type 2 diabetes because I have noticed for the last two weeks or so I have had to go to the bathroom several times during the nights. Also, I have seen and have been bitten by ants during sleep. I don t think I am exhibiting the other classic signs of the disease.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I appreciate your concern for frequent urination.

In view of frequent urination for the last 2 weeks, especially during night hours without actual loss of weight, increased thirst, itching, etc., may be due to diabetes.

Do you have any family member suffering from diabetes?

Other possibility is urinary infection but you do not have burning urination and no abdominal pain.

So, in view of the frequent urination, you are advised to undergo lab tests such as fasting and post-meal blood glucose and urine analysis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
