Does Eyelash Transplant Have Many Complications?

My son s has lost several eyelashes on his lower lid due to another surgery to excise a Chalazion. I did not realize the surgery would damage his ability to grow lashes. He is 9 and is very self conscious of it. What are the possible complications from eyelash transplant and what age is best to do it?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Possible complications for eye lash transplantation surgery is

1.Eyelid infection
2.Bruising and swelling
3.Graft displacement caused from scratching
Ingrown hairs
4.A downward pull of the lower eyelid
5.A turning in of the upper or lower eyelid
6.Poor placement or poor quality of eyelash grafts due to use of coarse hair as grafts, or placement of grafts that fails to achieve the desired esthetic result.

usually it is performed after the age of 25years, but before 25 we can try few hair transplant surgeries.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
