Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
yesterday, I experienced sharp pain in my left ear for short periods of time, pain which extended to the left side of my throat. Today, the sharp pain is gone but there is still tenderness at times. I had a wisdom tooth removed on that side about two weeks ago and wonder if this may be related. There is no exudate or fever. Frank
As per your complain pain after two weeks of wisdom tooth removal on the same side extending to ear and the throat can be due to a condition called "DRY SOCKET"..
Dry socket happens when the clot dislodges from the extraction socket leading to absence of healing and the socket gets inflamed leading to severe pain and the pain can radiate to the ear and throat too..
I would suggest you to consult an ORAL SURGEON or your dentist who has extracted your wisdom tooth to get evaluated for the cause of pain that whether it is due to dry socket or some other problem like throat infection..
In case of dry socket the dentist will place ZINC OXIDE EUGENOL dressing in the socket and advise you painkillers to initiate healing and relieve pain..
If it is found that pain is not of dental origin you will have to consult an ENT expert to find out the cause of pain..
Hope you get well soon..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
