My Wife has begun buying dried seaweed for snacks for the kids. One Package is about 5 grams and the my kids will dust off one pkg per kid sometimes 2 pkgs per day. I am aware that excessive dried seaweed can cause goiter and some other possible problems. My wife seems to present with some fluctuating hyper/hypo thyroid problems that are quoted "mild" by her physician. What do you advise?
I am so sorry to hear about troubling thought about seaweeds. Goiter refers to an increase in the size of the thyroid gland and has no relationship with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. There is no special chemical in seaweed that could justify the development of goiter. If your wife seems sick, I will suggest that you get her consulted and evaluated.
