Does Drinking Excess Water Cause Side Effects After Having Colon Resection?

I am a 59 year old woman who lives in the mountains of AZ. I have always drank a lot of water while living in the PHX metro area for 25+ years. I am being told now NOT to drink as much water as I have in the past. That it causes more problems than it helps. I have had a colon resection due to diverticulitis. Other than that, no major health issues. What do you recommend?
